ganghwa-history-museum

Ganghwa History Museum opened in 2010, and is located inside Ganghwa Dolmen Park, which was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Historic Site No. 137. The museum aims to exhibit, preserve and educate about the history and culture of Ganghwa from prehistoric ages to modern times based on artifacts from the area.

Incheon Metropolitan City Museum opened in April 1946 and been serving as a cultural space for Incheon citizens ever since. With a 60 year history, the museum has been hosted many exhibitions, musical performances and other cultural and social events for the public. The museum underwent a major transformation and had a reopening on July 10, 2006 adding more spacious exhibition halls and facilities like a library and cafeteria.

In 1999, the area of Geomdan carried out the excavation for cultural relics. As a result of the excavation, various relics and remains from the Bronze Age and Old Stone Age to the Joseon Period were found and as a result the Geomdan Prehistory Museum was built on November 27, 2008. The Museum showcases the lifestyle of prehistoric times and also has hands-on programs.

Jjajangmyeon (black soy bean noodles) is one of Korean’s most beloved dishes, known to have originated from Chinatown in Seollin-dong, Jung-gu of Incheon. This birthplace of jjajangmyeon also houses a special museum dedicated to the dish, introducing its history, progress in development, and the influence and value it effected on Korea. The museum took an empty brick building and restored it for the citizens.

The St. Paul’s Cathedral or simply Cathedral of Incheon, is the name given to a religious building belonging to the Catholic Church and is located in the city of Incheon, the third largest in South Korea. Father Eugene Cost of the Paris Foreign Missions Society, designed the cathedral of Dapdong Incheon. The church was completed six years ahead of Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul, with a mixture of styles including Gothic architecture.

Yongheunggung Palace is where King Cheoljong (a Joseon Dynasty ruler who reigned from 1849 to 1863) used to live before his ascension to throne. The chief of Ganghwa County, Jeong Gi-se, enlarged the original residence and named it Yongheunggung in the 4th year of King Cheoljong’s reign. Its architectural features include a paljak (Korean traditional half-hipped roof) and supporting columns rendered in Jusimpo style, the column brackets placed only on top of the columns.
